Artist Statement
DeLong Ceramics is a collection of original ceramic designs and collage art works from designer and artisan Denise DeLong. Ceramic works range from decorative relief tiles and ornaments to modern functional home accessories. Traned at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York, Denise's aesthetic incorporates several unique styles, from "Urban Craft" to "Mid-Century Modern". The New York City Tiles and Ornaments celebrate today's urban experience while paying homage to such architectural treasures as the Brooklyn Bridge, Grand Central Terminal, and the New York Public Library. Reminiscent of traditional Arts and Crafts, the Flora and Fauna Tile designs balance plants and animals into Denise's original dynamic compositions. Embracing a timeless modern elegance, the Ceramic Boat Cleat Collection is useful and adds a nautical flare to your home.
DeLong Press comprises a collection of delightful Collage Prints and Collage Holiday Cards. These intriguing art works are inspired by New York City, seasons through out the year, and holiday motifs. All designs are original creations by artist Denise DeLong. Using colorful translucent vellum, vibrant color gels, papers, thread, magazine clippings, she carefully creates charming compositions. Once completed, collages and cards are printed using a high-quality off-set method. Because of this, colors are very rich and subtle highlights and shadows of the collage layering appear to pop out. Following the printing, a delicate gloss pattern is applied to the cards accentuating specific parts of the card motif. With all this attentioned to detail, Collage Prints and Collage Cards have a remarkable rich resemblance to the original art work. Viewers often remark, "I can't believe this isn't the actual collage."
Denise is currently working in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. She is inspired by the unique landscape of the city and the never ending energy of its people.
